Someone gave my neighbor a female cat. They kept her outside because she urinated everywhere in the house. One stormy night I went onto my back porch and she was there. I just smiled and left her alone. Soon after I went onto my front porch. She was there meowing loudly. My porch isn’t closed in so she looked miserable and wet. I didn’t understand why she didn’t cross the backyard and go into her little shelter they had built for her at my neighbors. This went on for days. Even in the rain and she was soaking wet and hungry she stayed posted on either of my porches. I talked to my neighbor. She said her little house shelter was clean and dry and that her food bowl hadn’t been touched in days. I was amazed! This sweet animal was saying, I belong to someone else but I choose you! And she wasn’t taking no for an answer. I set up a cozy spot for her on both my porches and put out food. This was about 6 months ago. Come to find out the neighbor only took her to avoid the previous owner from placing her in a shelter. Well, long story short…..I now have a beautiful gray tabby girl! And we are head over heels in love with each other! She is now an inside cat and has never once peed outside her pink deluxe litter box I bought for her. She eats like crazy and is very healthy and happy! I love her to pieces! My two small dogs never made even the slightest fuss about me bringing her into our home! Yes! Cats choose their owners. And I’m so glad they do!😁 The chances are questionable for survival but the cat forced out of doors will most likely die from starvation, hit by an automobile, or attack from a predator. It has no outdoor life skills and learning new ways at that age is challenging. UNLESS a kind-hearted person intervenes to feed the cat and bring it back indoors I don’t think it will last long. Our vet told me that most abandoned cats dumped outside are dead within 3 months. Very sad. If you know someone thinking of doing such a foolish act, please advise the person to give the cat to a friend, family member, cat rescue, “no kill” or “low kill” animal shelter, or perhaps advertise it, with a nominal but logical price attached OR contact owner note to see that it finds a good home instead of being grabbed for free by someone seeking it for medical research or torture. Dumping an indoor cat outdoors is pretty much a death sentence for the cat.
